How it Works
After cleaning the area, the doctor applies a special cream, which is activated after about 3 hours using either an LED light (for around 8 minutes) or indirect sunlight (daylight PDT). The area is then covered with a bandage. For skin cancers, LED treatment is typically repeated after 1–2 weeks, while daylight PDT involves following your doctor’s instructions for controlled sun exposure.
What to Expect After
Side effects may include redness, swelling, and a burning or stinging sensation, especially on the face, which usually settles within a few days. Your doctor can help manage any discomfort with a cold pack, water spray, or local anaesthetic.
